As someone new to the custom keyboard hobby, I purchased two custom keyboard cables initially. One was over $100 and one was about $90. I was very happy with one of them while the other didn't turn out quite to my liking. Unfortunately, the one that I like (which also happened to be the one that was over $100) broke and I needed to replace it. I decided to do some shopping around to see if I could spend a little less money this time because once that cable broke I immediately regretted spending that much money on a cable and couldn't see myself doing that again.I actually came across CableMod custom configurator, which was nice and also just a tad less expensive than the cable I had. Right before I pulled the trigger, I found them on Amazon with prebuilt cables. I decided, "why not, let's give it a shot". I often stick with standard colors anyway (black, white, etc.) because it'll match with pretty much any setup I make. When this cable arrived, I was immediately impressed with the quality and compared it to my other two cables. CableMod easily won in my opinion in the following areas: (1) Metal host housing is better looking to me (2) the cable and tech flex looks and feels just like my other cables, albeit less expensive. The only differences I spot is that the aviator connector doesn't feel to be real metal. It's not cold to the touch and also is lighter in weight. The cable of my more expensive one has a lot of flex, whereas the CableMod one is just a tad bit more stiff, but not in a way where you can't maneuver the cable how you want. And that's it.Sure, if you're a stickler for "premium" then the non-metal-feeling aviator might put you off. But let's be real, we're not fondling the aviator or even touching it that often. It just sits on your desk. And, even when you do touch it, it's just to disconnect and that doesn't happen that often. Lastly, it's not like the CableMod one even feels bad. In fact, take a look at my pictures and you'd be hard pressed to even tell which is one (one is a cable that costs 3x as much and the other is the CableMod). After using this cable, I have very little reason to spend money on an expensive custom cable any longer unless I truly wanted to build something unique. If you're alright with your cables just being one or two colors then this really is a much better value. In fact, you could buy 3 or 4 of these cables in different colors and just mix and match them and still be at a better value than a custom.Great !
